Jewel of the Upper Fraser Protected

With funding from the Makeway Foundation, we traveled into the Raush valley with two Simpcw councillors and the Fraser Headwaters Alliance (FHA) in late 2021. The Raush valley is in the territories of Secwépemc and Dakelh people.

The FHA have campaigned for the full protection of the Raush for almost 30 years.

The Raush

Members of Simpcw First Nation, the Fraser Headwaters Alliance and Conservation North flew into the breathtaking Raush valley in October of 2021.

This week, the Simpcw First Nation declared the Raush valley an Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area (IPCA). Read this new piece by Sarah Cox to learn more about the announcement. 

We are cautiously optimistic that the IPCA announcement means there will be no roads or logging in the valley, which is one of three still-intact watershed in the headwaters of the Fraser River.
