No habitat protection for caribou, just more dead wolves and cougars

This letter from the BC Government to “targeted stakeholders” was sent to Conservation North by a concerned citizen: predator reduction letter-all-final

Some excerpts:

“While herd planning is the preferred comprehensive method for engagement on caribou recovery, it is time consuming”

“Although landscape scale habitat management is needed to support self-sustaining caribou populations, it may be decades before the benefits of such decisions are realized. Direct management of predators has the most rapid effect.”

“….high rates of wolf removal (>80%) must be achieved. The deployment of radio collars allows scientists to locate packs to ensure that all members of a pack are euthanized.”
